Process Improvement

A complete learning path from zero to job-ready Process Improvement Specialist.

All learning paths

This is a complete learning path — nine topics that take you from "I don't know what process improvement is" to "I can map a process, find its waste, design a better one, and lead the change." Everything is taught from zero, in a deliberate order, with practice after every topic and a mini project to cement each skill.

You do not need an engineering background to start. You only need a desire to make things work better and the discipline to do the practice. Roughly 12–14 weeks at a few hours a day gets you through the whole path and into a portfolio worth showing employers.

How to use this path

Start with the roadmap, then follow the topics in order — each one builds directly on the previous.

  1. PI Fundamentals — what process improvement is, waste identification, maturity models
  2. Lean Methodology — 8 wastes, value stream mapping, 5S, kanban, Kaizen
  3. Six Sigma Basics — DMAIC, SIPOC, CTQ, control charts, belt levels
  4. Process Mapping — flowcharts, BPMN, swimlanes, bottleneck analysis
  5. Root Cause Analysis — 5 Whys, fishbone, Pareto, FMEA
  6. Change Management — Kotter, ADKAR, resistance, sustaining change
  7. Kaizen & Continuous Improvement — PDCA, A3, Gemba, hoshin kanri
  8. Tools & Implementation — software, ROI, piloting, scaling, certifications
  9. Career Path — Lean Six Sigma belts, certifications, career progression

Skills you'll build

  • Frameworks: Lean, Six Sigma (DMAIC), Kotter, ADKAR, PDCA
  • Techniques: process mapping, root cause analysis, value stream mapping, FMEA
  • Work habits: data-driven improvement, stakeholder engagement, continuous learning

What you'll build

  • An AS-IS and TO-BE process map
  • A root cause analysis report
  • A business case for process improvement
  • An A3 problem-solving report
  • A Lean Six Sigma project portfolio

Who this is for

  • Professionals who want to reduce waste and improve efficiency
  • Managers looking to optimize team processes
  • Career changers moving into operational excellence

No experience required. If you can identify a process that could work better, you are ready for Topic 1.

Learning philosophy

Four rules keep the path effective. Data over opinion — measure before you improve, and measure after. Process over people — blame the system, not the individual. Small over big — frequent small improvements beat rare overhauls. Sustain over start — the hardest part is keeping the improvement alive. Follow those rules and the path ends with a portfolio of real improvements you can measure.
